COACH TONY HOLLOWAY'S COMMENTS
- Lexi Rankin has sold her heart and soul to help the softball program stay where we are at. We probably lost her [on Saturday] for the year with an injury unfortunately, but she has had a wonderful career for us. She's helped us as a pitcher and as an outfielder. She swung a pretty good bat this year. All in all, she's going to be someone I really miss.
- Faith Muterspaugh has had a pretty decent year this year. The first base position became a committee last year. When Ashley Wheeler went down with an injury this year, Faith had a really fine year holding down the corner. She swung the bat and that was something she really worked on.
- Jayden Brown is still leading our team in hitting. Last year after Game 8, she suffered an injury and I thought her career was over, but she worked her way back. She's another player that just plays hard; you know you are going to get 100 percent out of her. The end result is that Jayden is a player that any coach in this conference would love to have.
- Makayla Durick started in right field [on Saturday]. Se then came into pitch and held Rose-Hulman at bay. They didn't do a lot of damage against her. Her changeup worked [on Saturday], and when that changeup works, she's really good. I feel like Makayla's career is a success story. She was here, left for a couple of years and then decided to come back and finish out her career. She ended up playing her last three years of eligibility and ended up getting her degree.
- It's a shame that Alysa Marcin lost part of her career with a knee surgery. This year, she hasn't been 100 percent healthy and I doubt anyone could tell from how she's been playing. Alysa is a player that comes along once in a lifetime as a catcher. She's going to play no matter what and she's going to be a leader on the field. I think in the time I have been at Anderson, I have to put her down as one of the strongest-leading catchers I've had. She's definitely in the top two or three. If you ever watch her, she's just a professional hitter. She goes up there, hits it where the defense isn't and gets a base hit.
- Four of the seniors came in together and Makayla joined the group after she returned. They are all good kids who don't cause any problems, they are good in the classroom and that's what this softball program is all about.
- I wish we wouldn't have had to go through COVID with them. I wish we wouldn't have had the shortened season and the funny season with COVID. I think a part of their careers unfortunately was that they had to play through COVID, which for us was basically two lost seasons.
