Ravens Power Past Spartans with Sweep

The Anderson University softball team powered past Manchester University with a sweep during Wednesday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) doubleheader in North Manchester.

Anderson (5-13, 4-2) surged past Manchester (3-17, 1-5) with an 11-3 victory in Game 1. The Ravens then captured a 7-2 win in Game 2.

GAME 1: ANDERSON 11, MANCHESTER 3

Mickala Winans (Anderson, Ind./Pendleton Heights) went 3-for-4 for the Ravens. Chloe Closser (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Kyleigh Lowry (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Samantha Herron (Muncie, Ind./Delta) finished 2-for-4 with a double. Jayden Brown (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) and Faith Muterspaugh (Middletown, Ind./Shenandoah) each delivered RBI doubles while Ashley Wheeler (Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet-Seymour) and Taylor Johnson (Danville, Ind./Covenant Christian) rounded out Anderson's 13 hits with singles. Winans and Herron also provided RBIs.

Lexi Rankin (Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield-Central) (2-6) picked up the win. She struck out two batters, issued two walks and gave up three runs on five hits in seven innings.

GAME 2: ANDERSON 7, MANCHESTER 2

Lowry went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs while Ally Hall (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) finished 2-for-4 with an RBI single. Winans belted a two-run triple and Muterspaugh ripped a run-scoring double. Brown, Herron and Alysa Marcin (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) rounded out Anderson's nine hits with singles.

Alexis Kern (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) (2-5) earned the win. She walked three batters and allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings.
