The Anderson University softball team fights to split with Franklin College during Saturday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) doubleheader in Franklin.
Anderson (4-16, 1-3) battled to a 5-3 victory in eight innings in Game 1. Franklin (18-8, 1-3) then secured a 7-2 win in Game 2.
Game 1 utilized the international tiebreaker rule as it entered extra innings. In the top of the eighth inning, the Ravens took a 2-1 lead when Maddie Schoenradt scored after Kylie Sloan reached on an error. Alayna Hart drove in another run on a fielder's choice. Lexi Rankin opened up the game with a two-run double to put the Ravens ahead 5-1. Franklin scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth and had the go-ahead run at the plate, but Rankin struck out the final batter to seal the victory.
