The Anderson University softball team split its games during Day 1 of the Pioneer Classic on Saturday at Elizabeth Sports Park in Elizabethtown, Ky.
Anderson (2-4) fought past Spalding University (4-4) with a 6-5 victory in nine innings. Case Western Reserve University (5-6) then secured a 4-2 win against Anderson.

How It Happened
- Bella Velez put Spalding on the board in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI double.
- Grayce Marcum singled in a run during the fourth.
- Anderson tied the game at 2-all in the fifth. Jayden Brown drove in a run on a fielder's choice and Kayla Dillinger singled in a run.
- With the international tiebreaker in effect, Molly Buck drove in a run on a groundout to put Anderson ahead 3-2.
- Madison Loechle brought in a run on a groundout to even the score at 3-3 for Spalding.
- Anderson put together a big ninth inning with three runs. Taylor Johnson, Brown and Dillinger each drove in runs.
- Velez produced a two-run double, but the Eagles could not complete the comeback.

- Jordon Manworren singled in a run for the Spartans in the fifth.
- Kaila Nutter knocked in Elise Rolsten on a sacrifice fly in the sixth to give the Spartans a 3-0 lead.
- Manworren belted a run-scoring double in the seventh.
- In the bottom half of the inning, Brown and Rylee Morris tallied RBI's for the Ravens.
