Calvin University swept the Anderson University softball team during Thursday's doubleheader in Grand Rapids, Mich.
The Knights secured a 9-0 victory in six innings in Game 1. Calvin then hung on to take a 2-1 win against the Ravens in Game 2. The Knights entered Thursday ranked No. 24 in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) NCAA D-III poll.
In Game 1, Braelynn Hattendorf recorded a single. Katie Duncan (1-4) suffered the loss in Game 1.
In the top of the seventh inning in Game 2, Maddie Schoenradt led off the inning with a single. Following a lineout, Schoenradt advanced to second on a ground out. Schoenradt then swiped third base. With two outs, Belle Blickenstaff and Kylie Coleman drew consecutive walks. Maddie Tuttle was then hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to drive in a run. Calvin then forced a ground out to hang on with the tying run on third. M.J. Harper (0-1) was hit with the loss.
Anderson, which is 2-8 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play, clashes with Hanover College (8-24, 3-9) in an HCAC doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Hanover.
