The Anderson University softball team took a split with Defiance College during Tuesday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) doubleheader in Defiance, Ohio.
Defiance (10-11-1, 2-2) put together a 6-2 win in Game 1. The Ravens (3-11, 2-2) then outlasted the Yellow Jackets 4-3 in Game 2.
GAME 1: DEFIANCE 6, ANDERSON 2
Kyleigh Lowry (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) went 2-for-3 with an RBI double. Faith Muterspaugh (Middletown, Ind./Shenandoah) finished 2-for-3 with a run-scoring single. Chloe Closser (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) and Lexi Rankin (Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield-Central) each finished 2-for-4. Jayden Brown (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights), Mickala Winans (Anderson, Ind./Pendleton Heights) and Ally Hall (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) rounded out Anderson's 11 hits with singles.
GAME 2: ANDERSON 4, DEFIANCE 3
Closser went 2-for-3 with a double. Rankin and Marcin each finished 2-for-4. Brown, Samantha Herron (Muncie, Ind./Delta) and Taylor Johnson (Danville, Ind./Covenant Christian) rounded out Anderson's nine hits with singles. Johnson and Muterspaugh each drove in runs while Herron stole two bases.
Alexis Kern (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) (1-4) earned the win. She struck out two batters, issued two walks and allowed three runs on eight hits in six and one-third innings. Rankin picked up her second save of the season. She allowed zero runs on one hit in two-thirds of an inning.
