Anderson Battles to Split in Doubleheader with Earlham
The Anderson University baseball team (17-17, 9-5) split in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) doubleheader on Friday against Earlham College (21-9, 10-4) in Richmond. Game 1 went to the Quakers by a score of 7-4 while Game 2 was taken by the Ravens 7-6 in 10 innings.

Game 1: Earlham 7, Anderson 4
Anderson jumped out to an early lead in the top of the second inning of Game 1 after RBI's from Rene Casas Jr., Connor Gordon and a two-RBI double from Justin Reed to put them ahead 4-0 after the top of the second innings.
It would be the only inning that the Ravens could score runs in Game 1 as they ultimately fell 7-4.

Game 2: Anderson 7, Earlham 6 (F/10)
In the first inning of Game 2, the Ravens started with back-to-back singles from Grahm Reedy and Justin Reed. Tyler Smitherman hit a ground-rule double to bring in Reedy and score the first run of the game for the Ravens. The first inning would end 1-0.
Earlham was able to tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second.
In the third, Reedy would again lead off with a single and he would advance to second on a wild pitch with one out in the inning. A one-out Smitherman single to left field would advance Reedy to third. With runners on the corners, Jed Downham singled to center field to help bring in Reedy for his second run of the contest and give the Ravens a 2-1 lead after the top of the third.
In the fifth with two runners on base, Downham would add another RBI to his line, scoring Justin Reed on his single and advancing Smitherman to third. After a pitching change, Jake Stank would ground out to the right fielder but Smitherman scored on the play to make it a 4-1 Raven lead after the top of the fifth.
In the top of the eighth, Brady Reed led things off with a solo home run to make it a 5-1 ballgame.
Earlham would answer back with two runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning to make it a 5-3 game.
In the top of the ninth, Stank tripled home Justin Reed with two outs in the inning.
Earlham responded in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game at six but a Brady Reed solo home run, his second of the game, would give the Ravens the lead until the end of the game.
Kasey Henderson started Game 2 and went eight and one-third innings, allowing six runs while earning eight strikeouts, Evan Doan (5-2) would come in and get the win though, pitching one and two-thirds innings and allowing no runs and no hits to earn his fifth win of the year.
