Transylvania University hangs on for a sweep of the Anderson University baseball team during Saturday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) doubleheader in Lexington, Ky.
The Pioneers (11-3, 11-3) rolled to a 16-1 victory in seven innings during Game 1. In Game 2, Transylvania jumped out to an 8-2 lead after two innings. The Ravens (10-8, 10-8) chipped away at the deficit, but the Pioneers hung on for an 11-10 win.
In Game 1, Grahm Reedy (Yorktown, Ind./Yorktown), Justin Reed (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville), Josh Price (Anderson, Ind./Daleville), Tyler Burton (Knightstown, Ind./Knightstown) and Bennie Day (Charlestown, Ind./Jeffersonville) each provided singles. Reed also added an RBI.
In Game 2, Burton went 2-for-4 with a double and scored four runs. Jason Hall-Manley (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs. T.J. Price (Anderson, Ind./Daleville) went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Day and Rene Casas Jr. (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) each belted two-run doubles. Reed and Tyler Smitherman (Westfield, Ind./Westfield) rounded out Anderson's 10 hits with singles. Cole Whitlock (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute South) struck out two batters, issued two walks and gave up one run on two hits in four innings.
Anderson takes on Mount St. Joseph University (8-9, 8-9) in an HCAC doubleheader on Monday at 1 p.m. at Don Brandon Field.
