The Anderson University baseball team battled to a split with Franklin College during Saturday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) doubleheader in Franklin.
Franklin (3-3, 3-3) secured a 9-6 win in Game 1. The Ravens (2-2, 2-2) then captured an 11-8 victory in Game 2.
GAME 1: FRANKLIN 9, ANDERSON 6
M.J. Furnish (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian) went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs. Grahm Reedy (Yorktown, Ind./Yorktown) finished 2-for-5 with two RBIs while Justin Reed (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Tyler Burton (Knightstown, Ind./Knightstown) provided a double while Branton Sanders (Whiteland, Ind./Whiteland) and Jason Hall-Manley (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) rounded out Anderson's 12 hits with singles. Reed and Sanders each drove in a run. Sanders also stole two bases.
GAME 2: ANDERSON 11, FRANKLIN 8
Reedy smashed a grand slam for the Ravens. The sophomore from Yorktown went 3-for-6 with five RBIs. Jonathan Willioughby (Speedway, Ind./Speedway) finished 4-for-6 while Reed went 2-for-2 with four walks. T.J. Price (Anderson, Ind./Daleville) went 2-for-3 with a double. Sanders and Rene Casas Jr. (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) both finished 2-for-5. Burton drove in two runs while Casas Jr. and Price each added RBIs. Anderson put together 15 hits in Game 2. Sanders swiped three bases while Reed stole two bases.
Kasey Henderson (Muncie, Ind./Cowan) (2-0) recorded the win. The senior from Muncie struck out 11 batters, issued four walks and gave up six runs (four earned) on three hits in six innings. Jacob Hoffman (Avon, Ind./Avon) picked up his first save of the season. He fanned three batters, yielded two walks and allowed zero runs on one hit in one and two-thirds innings.
