Ravens Turn in Split with Yellow Jackets

The Anderson University baseball team turned in a split with Defiance College during Saturday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) doubleheader in Defiance, Ohio.

Defiance (4-8, 4-8) took a 5-4 win in Game 1. Anderson (8-5, 8-5) then secured a 6-5 victory in Game 2.

GAME 1: DEFIANCE 5, ANDERSON 4

Justin Reed (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) belted a two-run single and racked up four steals. Grahm Reedy (Yorktown, Ind./Yorktown), Tyler Burton (Knightstown, Ind.), Jason Hall-Manley (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine), Tyler Smitherman (Westfield, Ind./Westfield) and T.J. Price (Anderson, Ind./Daleville) rounded out Anderson's six hits with singles.

Kennedy Parker (McCordsville, Ind./Mount/Vernon) struck out seven batters, issued two walks and gave up four runs (two earned) on seven hits in six innings. Cole Whitlock (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute South) fanned a batter, yielded a walk and allowed one run on one hit in two innings.

GAME 2: ANDERSON 6, DEFIANCE 5

Branton Sanders (Whiteland, Ind./Whiteland) smashed a solo home run for the Ravens. Reed ripped a three-run double, going 2-for-4 at the plate. Jonathan Willoughby (Speedway, Ind./Speedway) produced a double. Reedy and Rene Casas Jr. (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) rounded out Anderson's six hits with singles.

Kasey Henderson (Muncie, Ind./Cowan) (3-1) captured the win. He punched out five batters, issued zero walks and surrendered three runs on four hits in seven innings. Smitherman picked up his second save of the season. He struck out two batters, gave up two walks and allowed two runs on three hits in two innings.
