The Anderson University baseball team posted a historic pitching performance during Sunday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) doubleheader split with Hanover College at Don Brandon Field.
Anderson (3-3, 3-3) powered to a 10-2 victory in Game 1. The Ravens struck out 16 batters, which ties for seventh in program history. Anderson also held Hanover to just two hits. Hanover (5-2, 5-2) utilized a big first inning to secure an 8-6 win in Game 2.
GAME 1: ANDERSON 10, HANOVER 2
Grahm Reedy (Yorktown, Ind./Yorktown) went 2-for-3 with four RBIs. The sophomore from Yorktown cranked a three-run double. Jason Hall-Manley (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) finished 2-for-5 with a triple and a two-run single. Tyler Smitherman (Westfield, Ind./Westfield) produced a double while Branton Sanders (Whiteland, Ind./Whiteland), Justin Reed (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) and T.J. Price (Anderson, Ind./Daleville) turned in singles to round out Anderson's eight hits. Reed, M.J. Furnish (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian) and Price each contributed RBIs. Jonathan Willoughby (Speedway, Ind./Speedway) and Furnish each drew three walks. Sanders stole two bases.
Walker Stull (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) (1-0) locked up the win. He struck out 10 batters, issued four walks and allowed one hit in six scoreless innings. Jacob Hoffman (Avcon, Ind./Avon) punched out six batters, yielded four walks and gave up two runs on one hit in two and two-thirds innings.
GAME 2: HANOVER 8, ANDERSON 6
Sanders went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Reed finished 3-for-4 with a double and a run-scoring single while Reedy went 3-for-5 with an RBI single. Willoughby, Tyler Burton (Knightstown, Ind./Knightstown), Furnish, Price and Rene Casas Jr. (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) each turned in singles to round out Anderson's 13 hits. Willoughby, Hall-Manley and Price each drove in runs. Sanders, Reedy and Furnish swiped two bases apiece.
Smitherman fanned seven batters, issued three walks and surrendered one run on two hits in four and one-third innings. Jose Olivo (Knightstown, Ind./Knightstown) struck out three batters, yielded a walk and surrendered one run on two hits in two innings.
