Ravens Split with Spartans

The Anderson University baseball team split with Manchester University during Sunday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) doubleheader in North Manchester.

Manchester (17-18, 17-18) secured a 16-8 win in Game 1 while Anderson (19-16, 19-16) locked up a 14-6 victory in Game 2.

GAME 1: MANCHESTER 16, ANDERSON 8

Bennie Day (Charlestown, Ind./Jeffersonville) smashed a two-run home run. Tyler Smitherman (Westfield, Ind./Westfield) went 2-for-4 while T.J. Price (Anderson, Ind./Daleville) went 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Justin Reed (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) belted a two-run single and M.J. Furnish (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian) added a double. Jason Hall-Manley (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) and Jonathan Willoughby (Speedway, Ind./Speedway) rounded out Anderson's nine hits with singles. Willoughby and Smitherman each drove in runs. Chandler Wise (Selma, Ind./Wapahani) struck out a batter, issued a walk and allowed an unearned run in one inning.

GAME 2: ANDERSON 14, MANCHESTER 6

Smitherman went 3-for-4 with a double, a homer and three RBIs. Branton Sanders (Whiteland, Ind./Whiteland) went 3-for-6 with a double, a homer and four RBIs. Rene Casas Jr. (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) went 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs. Day finished 3-for-5 with a double. Reed and Willoughby each went 2-for-5. Price finished 2-for-4. Day and Price each drove in runs. Anderson put together 17 hits on the game.

Walker Stull (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) (2-2) captured the win. He fanned 10 batters, yielded four walks and gave up six runs (three earned) on eight hits in seven and two-thirds innings. Zach Wagner (Newburgh, Ind./Castle) struck out a batter and allowed two hits in one and one-third scoreless innings.
