Nickel Collects Multiple NCBWA Weekly Honors

Anderson University baseball freshman Logan Nickel was recognized with multiple National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) NCAA Division III weekly honors on Wednesday.
Nickel was tabbed the NCBWA Rookie of the Week and received NCBWA Pitcher of the Week Honorable Mention. The freshman right-hander from Westfield has already been named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Pitcher of the Week and been selected to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week this week.
Nickel threw eight innings in relief without allowing a run or a hit. He racked up three saves in three appearances last week, while striking out 10 batters and issuing just one walk.
Nickel recorded a four-inning save in Game 1 against Bluffton University (16-18, 8-6), yielding a walk and fanning six batters as Anderson (16-16, 8-4) topped Bluffton 11-4. He went one inning in Game 1 against Defiance College (7-23, 2-12), allowing zero hits, zero walks and striking out one as Anderson fought past Defiance 8-5. Nickel then came back for Game 2 against Defiance, throwing three innings and giving up zero hits, zero walks, while punching out three batters as the Ravens secured a 7-6 victory against the Yellow Jackets.
The Ravens battle Earlham College (20-8, 9-3) in a key HCAC doubleheader on Friday at 2 p.m. in Richmond.
