Ravens Hold Off Pioneers

The Anderson University men's soccer team held off Marietta College in a 3-2 victory on Saturday at the AU Soccer Fields.
 
Drew Sonnefeldt (Lisle, Ill./Lisle) recorded a goal assisted by R.J. Macomber (Marion, Ind./Marion) 46 minutes into the match. Race Williams (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian) delivered a goal 52 minutes into the match to put the Ravens (3-3) ahead 2-0. Daniel Collins (Jamestown, Ind./Western Boone) capitalized off a pass from Sonnefeldt during the 59th minute to extended Anderson's lead to three.
 
Matt Montgomery contributed a goal assisted by Evan Taylor in the 73rd minute to put the Pioneers (2-3) on the board. Gavin Long rebounded a shot on goal from Dave Beattie with less than two minutes remaining to narrow the deficit to one. Beattie was credited with an assist. Despite the late rally, Marietta was unable to recover from its deficit.
 
Caleb Oliver (Marion, Ind./Marion) saved 12 of the 14 shots he faced. Grant Conklin (Lewisburg, Ohio/Troy Christian) and Nick Martin (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) also recorded saves. Chase Litzke (Plain City, Ohio/Fairbanks) racked up four steals while Oliver intercepted six passes.
 
The Ravens clash with Wabash College (3-2) on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the AU Soccer Fields.
