Rose-Hulman Pulls Away from Anderson
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology pulled away from the Anderson University men's soccer team with a 5-2 victory during Wednesday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) matchup in Terre Haute.
Â
The Fightin' Engineers (14-3, 7-1) charged to a 4-0 lead at the half. Anderson (6-10-2, 3-4-1) scored twice in the second half, outscoring Rose-Hulman 2-1 for the half.
Â
"We started slow in the first half as we have typically done this year," Coach Scott Fridley said. "After going down four goals and playing arguably our worst half of the season, we challenged the boys to win the second half and prepare for Saturday's season-ending game. They did. They came out strong."
Â
During the 54th minute, Sean Cain (Monroe, Ohio/Monroe) delivered a goal off a volley to put the Ravens on the board. Derek Thorpe (Cicero, Ind./Hamilton Heights) and Nick Martin (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) contributed the assists.
Â
Four minutes later, Daniel Collins (Jamestown, Ind./Western Boone) provided a goal after capitalizing off a corner kick from Sam Rowlison (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) to cut the deficit to 4-2.
Â
The Fightin' Engineers added another goal in the 88th minute.
Â
"With a chance to cut it to one, we just couldn't sustain enough time in the box. I am proud of our second half until we let down on their second-half goal to finish things out at the end of the half. Sean's and Daniel's goals were nice."
Â
Collins registered three shots on goal. Cain and Antony Rodriguez (Lawrence, Ind./Lawrence North) contributed shots on goal while Drew Sonnefeldt (Lisle, Ill./Lisle) added a shot.
Â
Chase Litzke (Plain City, Ohio/Fairbanks) led the Ravens with four steals. Martin and Litzke both turned in team-highs of two interceptions. Caleb Oliver (Marion, Ind./Marion) started the first half in goal for the Ravens and saved five of the nine shots he faced. Jackson Etheridge (Finneytown, Ohio/St. Xavier) came up with four saves on five shots during the second half for Anderson.
The Fightin' Engineers outshot the Ravens 16-6 and held a 14-5 advantage in shots on goal.
Â
Anderson goes head-to-head with Bluffton University (6-12, 1-7) in HCAC action for the regular-season finale on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in Bluffton, Ohio.
