The Anderson University men's soccer team took on the Grizzlies of Franklin College in Franklin, Ind. on Saturday. In the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) contest, the Ravens fell to the Grizzlies by a final score of 3-1.
In a match that saw a total of 32 shots, the Grizzlies (2-5-1, 2-5-1) were able to capitalize on their opportunities. In the 39th minute, the Grizzlies recorded their first goal of the match, with Issac Gleitz finding the back of the net. The Ravens (1-4-1, 1-4-1) and Grizzlies would go on to enter halftime with the Ravens trailing 1-0.
It wouldn't be until the final 10 minutes of the match before either team would take their chances and find their way against the opposing goalkeeper. The Ravens would strike first. In the 80th minute, Regan Frost (Yorktown, Ind./Yorktown) would find himself at the end line inside the Grizzlies 18-yard box with the goalkeeper stepping towards him. A quick poke with the outside of his foot to a defender less Iley McQuiddy (West Chester, Ohio/Cincinnati Christian) gave McQuiddy everything he needed to take a settling touch and send the ball into the back of an open goal.
Just a minute later, the Grizzlies got their winning goal with a shot by Jacob Thompson. Thompson would go on to secure the win in the 86th minute with his second goal of the game.
In the end, the Ravens outshoot the Grizzlies 25-7, having 11 of their shots on frame. Three Ravens, R.J. Macomber (Marion, Ind./Marion), Wes Erny (Anderson, Ind./Anderson), and Frost each had four shots, with Frost having two on goal. Overall 10 Ravens took their chances at a goal on Saturday. Ravens goalkeeper Danny Moro-Medina (Goshen, Ind./Goshen) made two saves on the day.
The Ravens will host the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Fightin' Engineers (7-0-1, 7-0-1) in HCAC action on Wednesday in their final game of the 2020-2021 regular season. Kick-off is set for 3:30PM at Macholtz Stadium.
