The Anderson University men's soccer team welcomed the Yellow Jackets of Defiance College to Macholtz Stadium Tuesday. The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) match resulted in a 0-0 draw after double overtime.
"I felt like this was the first game this spring that we fought to try to get a result," Coach Scott Fridley said. "Coach Bucur has done an awesome job with [Defiance's] program in a short time. This Defiance teal is athletic and dangerous. I think a 0-0 result was a fair result. Both teams missed many opportunities. We were close many times, but my boys just won't shoot when they get the first opportunity. We have to take more risks up front. I think everyone worked hard and put a solid performance in. "
Much like the 2019-2020 season, neither the Ravens (0-4-1, 0-4-1) nor the Yellow Jackets (2-2-1, 2-2-1) were able to find the back of the net in the 110 minutes of play.
Three Ravens, R.J. Macomber (Marion, Ind./Marion), Drew Vaughn (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek), and Wes Erny (Anderson, Ind./Anderson) each recorded three shots, with Vaughn recording two on goal. Overall, eight Ravens took their chance at goal, recording a total of 16 shots, with five of the shots on goal.
The Yellow Jackets outshot the Ravens, recording 30 shots with 12 on goal. Ravens goalkeeper Danny Moro-Medina (Goshen, Ind./Goshen), who made his first career start, made 10 saves to be able to keep the Ravens in the game over the 110 minutes played.
Anderson will now travel to Cincinnati, Ohio to take on the Lions of Mount St. Joseph University (2-2-1, 2-2-1) on Saturday at Schueler Field. Kick-off is set for 3:30 p.m.
