The Anderson University men's soccer team fell to DePauw University by a score of 6-0 during Wednesday's matchup at the AU Women's Soccer Practice Field.
After putting together the program's largest recruiting class in program history, six of Anderson's 11 starters consisted of freshmen.
"I was very happy with the first 70 minutes of the game," Coach Scott Fridley said. "We started six freshmen, and feel like we have some excitement here for the future. Freshmen are going to make mistakes, the first three goals all came off freshmen miscues. Our possession was much better and we have a lot to be excited about."
Danny Moro-Medina (Goshen, Ind./Goshen) saved five of the 11 shots he faced.
"We had solid play from goalkeeper Danny Moro-Medina."
Caleb Gonser (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute South) and Victor Silva (Paramount, Calif./St. Matthias Catholic) each registered a shot on goal. Stephen Fite (Cincinnati, Ohio/Homeschool) tallied two shots while Matthew Murray (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike), Luke Burkle (Muncie, Ind./Delta) and Usman Kamara (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) each contributed shots.
The Tigers (1-0) outshot the Ravens (0-1) 17-7 and held an 11-2 advantage in shots on goal.
"We played with more patience [on Wednesday] than the past couple years. I do hope we learn from the game. We will continue to get better daily. Playing a quality opponent like Depauw, who is very well coached by Coach Hauter, just helps you find those weaknesses faster."
Anderson begins the Raven/Quaker Classic at the AU Soccer Field this weekend. The Ravens host Emory & Henry College (0-0) for Parents Day on Saturday at 2 p.m. Anderson then battles Heidelberg University (1-0) on Sunday at 2 p.m.
