Macomber Contributes Goal Against Berry

Anderson University men's soccer sophomore R.J. Macomber (Marion, Ind./Marion) contributed a goal against Berry College during Sunday's matchup in Mount Berry, Ga.
 
Macomber put the Ravens (3-6) on the board 85 minutes into the match.
 
Berry (5-3-1) captured a 5-1 victory against Anderson. Aidan Hackett, Gerard Cabrera, J.P. Phillips, Conner Davis and Jake Williamson. Mason Hemstreet notched two assists while Bradley Sisk added an assist.
 
Macomber scored on Anderson's only shot on goal. Nick Martin (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) and Macomber provided shots.
 
Caleb Oliver (Marion, Ind./Marion) started as goalkeeper for the opening 45 minutes. He saw eight shots and came up with four saves. Jackson Etheridge (Finneytown, Ohio/St. Xavier) served as goalkeeper for the remaining 45 minutes and saved two of the three shots he faced.
 
Martin and Noah LaBelle (Rushsylvania, Ohio/Calvary Christian School) recorded team-highs of three interceptions each. Chase Litzke (Plain City, Ohio/Fairbanks) led the Ravens with four steals.
 
Anderson played two tough opponents during the weekend after falling to Oglethorpe University (5-3), which is receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll, in a 7-1 loss on Friday. The Ravens showed promise after finding the back of the net in each contest.
 
"I am proud of the fight in the boys," Coach Scott Fridley said. We played two very-impressive top-25-type teams that were very dangerous. There were many all-region players out there. To be fair, Oglethorpe was ranked No. 3 in the country a week ago. Neither game we quit; we just gave up a couple early goals that put us behind the 8-ball quickly in both matches. We play these kinds of teams so we can learn and prepare for the HCAC. Scoring in both matches with more chances give reason for excitement going forward. We really did a lot of great things this weekend. I'm also proud of our guys off the bench. They provided a spark in both games."
 
Anderson's trip to Georgia did not go without Atlanta sight-seeing.
 
"The boys enjoyed our tour of Martin Luther King's house and church as well as a great Atlanta FC match."
 
The Ravens prepare for another tough opponent as they square off with Wilmington College (7-1) next Saturday at 4 p.m. at the AU Soccer Fields.
