The Anderson University men's soccer team (0-0-1) battled to a 1-1 draw with Blackburn College (0-0-1) behind a late goal during the Raven/Quaker Classic on Friday at Fridley Field.
Blackburn's Brayden Smith headed in a goal during the 68th minute off a corner kick from Grant Eugea to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead.
With less than five minutes remaining, Jordan Bossman drove the ball upfield. Bossman completed an open pass to Emmett Kindler. Kindler then found enough space to set up a give and go with Wesley Lewis. Lewis took Kindler's pass and made a one-tap return to Kindler, who fired the shot for a goal. The goal was officially assisted by Lewis.
COACH SCOTT FRIDLEY'S COMMENTS
- I was disappointed with how we started the game, but was happier with the final 30 minutes of the game. When we started to control the pace in the second half, things got better.
- Blackburn is a good team and took advantage of our weakness in the back.
- I am proud the boys sorted things out and finished well. I was especially happy with our freshmen that really played well. They stepped up for sure.
- Onward to a tough team [on Saturday]. We need to settle ourselves and just play.
