Needing a win to qualify for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Tournament, the Anderson University men's soccer team shut out Berea College 2-0 on Tuesday in Berea, Ky.
Anderson (6-7-4, 3-3-3) punched its ticket to the HCAC Tournament and earned the No. 4 seed. Berea (5-12-2, 4-4) settled in the No. 5 seed. The Ravens and the Mountaineers finished tied in the HCAC standings, but Tuesday's win secured the head-to-head tiebreaker for Anderson. Bluffton University (6-6-5, 3-4-2) finished with the No. 6 seed. Earlham College (4-11-2, 3-5-1) trailed Bluffton by one point in the conference standings, just missing the conference tournament. A tie or loss for the Ravens would have eliminated them from the HCAC Tournament.
COACH SCOTT FRIDLEY'S COMMENTS
I am very proud of the boys, a hard-fought game against a quality opponent. I thought our boys played a complete game [on Tuesday]. I thought out defense was fantastic, led by our goalkeeper Braydon Kennedy as well as Drew Vaughn. The boys put us in a great place to be able to host on Saturday. We look forward to that opportunity and hope we bring our best game.
