The Anderson University men's soccer team and Transylvania University grinded out a 0-0 tie to open the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) season on Wednesday in Lexington, Ky.
"I'm very proud of [Wednesday's] efforts," Coach Scott Fridley said. "The boy's made some strides. When we moved the ball, we were very dangerous."
Transylvania (2-3-2, 0-0-1) outshot the Ravens (3-6-1, 0-0-1) by a 14-8 margin. Both teams registered three shots on goal apiece.
Victor Silva (Paramount, Calif. / St. Matthias Catholic) tallied three shots and one shot on goal. The sophomore from Paramount, Calif. provided Anderson's best scoring look as a corner kick he took in the 100th minute struck the post.
Usman Kamara (Indianapolis, Ind. / Franklin Central) took two shots for the Ravens. Luke Burkle (Muncie, Ind. / Delta) and Stephen Fite (Muncie, Ind. / Delta) each put their only shot on frame. Caleb Gonser (Terre Haute, Ind. / Terre Haute South) also added a shot.
Anderson's defense limited Transylvania to three shots on goal and Josh Brown (Thompson's Station, Tenn. / Columbia Academy) posted a three-save shutout. Drew Vaughn (Beavercreek, Ohio / Beavercreek) and Art Hinton IV (Indianapolis, Ind. / Covenant Christian) collected team-highs of three steals while Vaughn and Dalton Grubbs (Carmel, Ind. / Carmel) notched team-highs of three intercepts.
"I feel like Josh Brown and the defenders did a very good job of just staying patient and keeping the ball."
The Ravens face off with Franklin College (2-6, 0-1) in HCAC action on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the AU Soccer Fields.
"I think we grew up a little against a very talented team that is well coached. Getting a point in Lexington is no easy thing to do. Onward to Saturday."
