Anderson Knocks Off Rose-Hulman, Advances to HCAC Championship
The fourth-seeded Anderson University men’s soccer team knocked off top-seeded Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology by a score of 2-1 during Tuesday’s Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) semifinal in Terre Haute.

The fourth-seeded Anderson University men's soccer team knocked off top-seeded Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology by a score of 2-1 during Tuesday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) semifinal in Terre Haute.
With the victory, Anderson (8-7-4) advanced to the HCAC Championship game for the first time since 2012.
"I am so proud of the hard work the boys put in [on Tuesday]," Coach Scott Fridley said. "They never stopped, slowed down or took a break. They played the full 90 minutes. They kept pressing and making things happen for us."
Cohen Wintin put Anderson on the scoreboard in the 38th minute after capitalizing off a pass from Ryan McClure. McClure received the assist. The Ravens entered halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Rose-Hulman (10-5-3) was able to respond in the fourth minute of the second half. The Fightin' Engineers drew a penalty kick and Oliver Fila delivered the equalizer. Despite Rose-Hulman tying the game, the Ravens pressed on.
"We didn't get too nervous at points of the game. We were able to keep calm and stay true to the game."
The Ravens broke the tie with under six minutes left in the game as Wintin found the back of the net for the second time in the game. Iley McQuiddy and Drew Vaughn were credited with the assists.
"I am very proud of the coming out party of Cohen Wintin and his freshmen friends as they all played hard and well."
Braydon Kennedy saved two of the three shots he faced. The freshmen from Garrett led the Ravens with five intercepts. Despite Rose-Hulman putting up 15 shots, the Ravens held the Fightin' Engineers to only one goal.
"The goalkeeping was fantastic again with the defense giving us an opportunity to win."
Rose-Hulman outshot Anderson 15-7. Both teams finished with three shots on goal each.
Wintin scored on both of his shots. Caleb Opoku paced the Ravens with two steals. Jaxon Gillig put his only shot on frame. Jack Harris tallied two shots while McClure and Dalton Grubbs each added shots.
Fila contributed two shots and two shots on goal for Rose-Hulman. Ryan Shapiro notched five shots and one shot on goal. Eli Miller produced three shots while Nick Phillips provided two shots. Cameron Hannah, Jacob Pohl, Elijah Hardersen rounded out Rose-Hulman's 15 shots with a shot apiece. John Biederstadt saved one of the three shots he faced.
Anderson faces off with second-seeded Hanover College (9-5-4) in the HCAC Championship game on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Hanover.
