Bio

Jeff Bates enters the 2020-21 season in his second year as an assistant coach with the Anderson University women’s basketball team.

Bates returns to Anderson University after spending four years with the men’s basketball program as a player. He currently ranks third in school history in both career and single-season 3-point field-goal percentage.

Bates brings more than 25 years of coaching to Anderson. He spent the prior eight seasons as an assistant coach at Frankton High School (Boys – 2011-15, Girls – 2014-19). During his times as the assistant, the boys went 79-23 and the girls went 90-42.

On the boy’s side, Frankton earned the program’s first-ever Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) 2A sectional title in 2012. The Eagles then captured their first-ever regional and semi-state titles in 2015. Frankton finished second in the IHSAA 2A Tournament with a program-best 26-3 record. During Bates’s four years as the boy’s assistant, the Eagles locked up four Central Indiana Conference titles and two IHSAA 2A sectional titles.

On the girl’s side, Frankton claimed its first-ever IHSAA 2A regional title in 2018. The Eagles secured IHSAA 2A sectional crowns in 2016 and 2018.

Bates graduated from Anderson Highland High School in 1984 and Anderson University in 1989. He is currently a science teacher and holds a Master of Arts in Education.
