Fifteenth-Ranked Transylvania Fights Past Anderson
Transylvania University, tied for 15th in the latest Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) poll, fought past the Anderson University women's basketball team with a 69-56 victory during Saturday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) matchup at O.C. Lewis Gymnasium.

The Ravens (2-5, 0-2) outscored the Pioneers (5-1, 1-0) in the second half by a 33-27 margin. Anderson held a 17-12 advantage in the third quarter and a 16-15 advantage in the fourth quarter.

"The second half was incredibly encouraging and hopefully we saw what we are capable of when we are locked in, defensively," Coach Lindsay Shade said.

Payton Moore (Spiceland, Ind./Tri) posted 20 points and eight rebounds to lead the Ravens. The sophomore from Spiceland set a scoring high for the season. During the second half, Moore contributed 16 points and six rebounds.

"Payton has struggled with her confidence and I thought she was more aggressive in the second half than she's been all season."

Lexi Dellinger (Berne, Ind./South Adams) notched 16 points. The sophomore from Berne converted 4-of-9 (44.4 percent) shots from 3-point range.

Jade Shipley (Westfield, Ind./Westfield) scored nine points, while hitting each of her three 3-point attempts. Hannah Hawkins (Fairmount, Ind./Madison-Grant) tallied seven points and two blocks. Mariah Clemons (Maineville, Ohio/Little Miami) added three points and Carly Hackler (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) rounded out the Anderson scoring effort with one point.

Ashton Woodard, the conference leader in scoring, paced Transylvania with 17 points. Shelby Boyle, the fourth-leading scorer in the conference, filled up the stat sheet with 15 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and two blocks.

"Boyle and Woodard showed why they are two of the best players in the league. They are really tough and capitalized on any defensive mistakes we made."

Kennedi Stacy and Miranda Otero provided 12 points and 10 points, respectively. Elizabeth Hardiman pulled down nine rebounds.

The Pioneers outrebounded the Ravens 41-33. Transylvania finished with a 17-9 advantage on offensive rebounds to outscore Anderson 23-11 on second-chance points.

The Ravens drained 21-of-53 (39.6 percent) shots from the field and 7-of-17 (41.2 percent) attempts from the perimeter. Transylvania knocked down 26-of-66 (39.4 percent) shots from the field 12-of-34 (35.3 percent) attempts from behind the arc.

Anderson converted 7-of-11 (63.6 percent) shots from the free-throw line while Transylvania made 5-of-8 (62.5 percent) attempts from the charity stripe.

"All in all, I felt like we grew up a little bit and I am encouraged by our progress."

Anderson battles Mount St. Joseph (0-6, 0-2) in HCAC action next Saturday at 2 p.m. in Cincinnati.
