Anderson Fights Past Franklin

The Anderson University women's basketball team (8-5, 6-2) fought past Franklin College (6-6, 5-2) by a score of 79-71 during Saturday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) matchup in Franklin.

COACH JON GIN'S COMMENTS

[Saturday] was all about hustle and heart and playing for each other. I thought our team did a really good job of that, especially in the second half. We stayed confident and overcame a poor shooting performance in the first half and our defense really led the way in the comeback. We were able to limit them to one shot and did a terrific job on the boards. It feels good to finally have a positive rebounding margin.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Grizzlies outscored the Ravens 22-11 in the second quarter. Franklin shot 45 percent (9-of-20) from the field in the second quarter while Anderson made 2-of-13 (15.4 percent) attempts from the floor.
• Franklin entered halftime with a 36-26 lead.
• During the first half, Anderson finished 7-of-31 (22.6 percent) from the field and 5-of-20 (25 percent) from 3-point range. The Grizzlies converted 14-of-35 (40 percent) shots from the floor and 5-of-10 (50 percent) attempts from the perimeter in the first half.
• The Ravens held the Grizzlies scoreless for the first 4 minutes, 58 seconds of the third quarter and opened the quarter on a 10-0 run to tie the game at 36-36. Lexi Dellinger scored the first five points and Grace Marshall scored the next five points.
• The third quarter consisted of four lead changes and three ties. Franklin held a 55-50 lead through three quarters.
• To open the fourth quarter, Jade Shipley hit a jumper and Mackinzie Toliver tied the game at 55-55 with a 3-pointer.
• The fourth quarter consisted of five ties and five lead changes. Between 6:09 and 5:35 in the fourth quarter, there were four lead changes.
• A 3-pointer from Lauren Smith gave the Ravens a 72-69 with 3:37 to go. Anderson would hold the lead for the remainder of the contest.
• The Ravens closed out the final 3:12 on a 7-0 run.
• During the second half, Anderson shot 20-of-34 (58.8 percent) from the floor and 9-of-15 (60 percent) from behind the arc. Franklin finished 10-of-29 (34.5 percent) from the field and 6-of-10 (60 percent) from 3-point range in the second half.
• In the fourth quarter, Anderson drained 11-of-15 (73.3 percent) shots from the floor and 5-of-8 (62.5 percent) attempts from behind the arc.
• Anderson converted 27-of-65 (41.5 percent) shots from the field while Franklin hit 24-of-64 (37.5 percent) attempts from the floor.
• The Ravens knocked down 14-of-35 (40 percent) attempts from the perimeter while the Grizzlies drained 11-of-20 (55 percent) shots from behind the arc.
• Franklin hit 12-of-14 (85.7 percent) shots from the free-throw line while Anderson made 11-of-19 (57.9 percent) attempts from the charity stripe.
