Ravens Take Down Redhawks
The Anderson University women's basketball team took down Miami-University Middletown with a 70-54 victory during the third-place game of the Wilmington Tournament on Saturday in Wilmington, Ohio.
Â
Anderson (1-2) had already faced two tough opponents in Ohio Northern University (1-0) and Wilmington Tournament Champion Denison University (3-0). Their win against Miami-Middletown (1-4) capped off Anderson's third game of the week.
Â
"We are finishing up a tough stretch of three games in five days," Coach Lindsay Shade said. "It's great to get the first win under our belts."
Â
The Ravens committed 15 turnovers while the Redhawks turned the ball over 20 times.
Â
Anderson tallied an assist on 22 of its 27 field goals. The Ravens converted 27-of-59 (45.8 percent) shots from the field while the Redhawks hit 18-of-52 (34.6 percent) attempts from the floor.
Â
"I thought we did a much better job of taking care of the ball. But, I was most pleased with the way we shared the basketball offensively. There were several opportunities where we made the extra pass, giving up a good shot for a better shot. I think our field goal percentage is reflective of that unselfishness."
Â
Hannah Hawkins (Fairmount, Ind./Madison-Grant) recorded 17 points, nine rebounds and two blocks to lead the Ravens in all three categories. Payton Moore (Spiceland, Ind./Tri) and Lexi Dellinger (Berne, Ind./South Adams) contributed 11 points apiece while Carly Hackler (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) turned in seven points.
Â
Jade Shipley (Westfield, Ind./Westfield) notched nine points. Rylee Morris (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran) provided seven points and Kaitlynn Anzel (West Chester, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) scored four points.
Â
"We also had a nice spark off the bench with solid contributions from Jade, Rylee, and Kaitlynn."
Â
Mariah Clemons (Maineville, Ohio/Little Miami) and Shelby Miller (Winchester, Ind./Winchester) rounded out Anderson's scoring with two points apiece.
Shipley and Hackley dished out five assists apiece while Dellinger added four assists. Hackler also collected three steals.
Â
Anderson battles Alma College (2-2) next Saturday at 2 p.m. in Alma, Mich.
