Anderson Rallies Past Kalamazoo

Anderson (4-6) outscored Kalamazoo (2-9) by a 23-5 margin in the fourth quarter.
"I am so proud of our team and the way they battled back from behind to pull out the win," Coach Lindsay Shade said. "I am most encouraged by the way we have practiced since coming back from Christmas break. The effort, focus, and intensity have been significantly different and it showed up [on Monday]."
Anderson converted 21-of-61 (34.4 percent) shots from the field while Kalamazoo hit 21-of-59 (35.6 percent) attempts from the floor. The Hornets drained 13-of-25 (52 percent) shots from the floor in the first half, but only made 8-of-34 (23.5 percent) attempts from the field in the second half.
"This was not our best offensive performance, but I thought our defensive effort and intensity were outstanding in the second half."
Payton Moore led the Ravens with 14 points. The 6-foot sophomore forward from Spiceland blocked three shots.
Hannah Hawkins scored seven points and recorded team highs of 11 rebounds and six blocks. The 6-foot-2 junior center from Fairmount tied the school record for most blocks in a game. Hawkins accounts for two of the six six-block performances in school history.
As a team, the Ravens blocked nine shots, which is tied for fourth among the Anderson single-game records.
Lexi Dellinger notched 12 points and six assists. Hanna Ault contributed 11 points. Kristin Dubois provided six points, Cassie Pallett added five points and Mariah Clemons produced four points. Carly Hackler and Allie Owens rounded out the Anderson scoring effort with three points each.
Kaytlyn Tidey paced the Hornets with 19 points. Isabelle Clark put together 13 points. Mya Gough racked up seven blocks. Sierra Fraser pulled down nine rebounds while Georgie Andrews tallied five assists and eight rebounds.
Anderson outrebounded Kalamazoo 43-36.
The Hornets sank 9-of-21 (42.9 percent) shots from 3-point range while the Ravens knocked down 8-of-21 (38.1 percent) attempts from the perimeter.
Anderson drained 15-of-19 (78.9 percent) attempts from the free-throw line while Kalamazoo made 4-of-7 (57.1 percent) shots from the charity stripe.
Kalamazoo led Anderson 17-15 after the first quarter and 36-29 at halftime. The Hornets led 44-30 in the third before the Ravens cut away at the deficit to make the score 50-42 after three quarters.
Dellinger hit a 3-pointer and a layup in the fourth quarter, Dubois drained a 3-pointer with 4 minutes, 54 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 50-all. Andrews made a layup with 2:57 left to put Kalamazoo up by two and snap its 8:40 scoring drought. Hawkins made a layup to tie the game and Moore scored the next five points to separate Anderson from Kalamazoo.
"I think the best part is that every single player available to play made a meaningful contribution in tonight's win. We needed this and hopefully can carry some confidence with us as we head into conference play."
Anderson, which is 0-3 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action, battles Earlham College (2-8, 1-2) on Saturday in an HCAC matchup at 1 p.m. in Richmond.
