Five Ravens Break Double Digits, Anderson Takes Down Bruins
Five Anderson University women's basketball players broke double digits as Anderson took down Bob Jones University with a 67-50 victory on Tuesday in O.C. Lewis Gymnasium.
Â
The Ravens (2-3) held a 35-32 lead against Bob Jones (3-6) at halftime. Anderson then outscored the Bruins 32-18 in the second half.
Â
"We have really struggled to find our rhythm the last couple of weeks," Coach Lindsay Shade said. "[Tuesday], we finally put some pieces together and I thought our defensive focus was excellent coming out of halftime."
Â
Lexi Dellinger (Berne, Ind./South Adams), Payton Moore (Spiceland, Ind./Tri), Hannah Hawkins (Fairmount, Ind./Madison-Grant), Jade Shipley (Westfield, Ind./Westfield) and Rylee Morris (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran) each broke double-digit scoring for the Ravens.
Â
"I cannot remember the last time we had 5 players score in double figures."
Â
Anderson tied two single-game records on Tuesday. Hawkins blocked six shots, becoming the first Raven to block six shots in a game since Mel Hawthorne did in 2008. Anderson also went a perfect 16-for-16 from the free-throw line. The Ravens tied the school record for most free throws made without a miss, matching the mark set against Transylvania University on Dec. 12, 2015.
Â
Madison Shupe led the Ravens with 17 points and eight rebounds. She drained 4-of-5 (80 percent) shots from the perimeter in the first half before Dellinger held Shupe to five points in the second half.
Â
"Shupe had too many open looks in the first half and hurt us. Coming out of halftime, we switched our matchups to put Lexi on her and she did a fantastic job."
Â
To go along with her six blocks, Hawkins posted a double-double with 10 points and a team-high 13 rebounds.
Â
Dellinger notched 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists. The sophomore from Berne hit 4-of-8 (50 percent) shots from behind the arc.
Â
Moore tallied 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Â
"Hannah was outstanding on both sides of the ball and Payton recorded a double-double."
Â
Shipley recorded 13 points and sank 3-of-5 (60 percent) shots from downtown. Morris contributed 10 points. Hanna Ault (Pennville, Ind./Jay County) rounded out Anderson's scoring with four points.
Â
The Ravens outrebounded the Bruins 44-33.
Â
Anderson converted 21-of-53 (39.6 percent) shots from the field while Bob Jones was limited to 19-of-67 (28.4 percent) shots from the floor.
Â
The Ravens found a strong response following Saturday's 69-41 loss to Alma College (4-3).
Â
"Even with all the individual accomplishments, I am proudest of the way this group of women responded to a tough loss on Saturday. We are young and still searching for our identity, but this is a resilient group."
Â
Anderson is slated for two Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) matchups next week. The Ravens face off with Defiance College (0-3) on Tuesday at 7:30 pm. In Defiance, Ohio. Anderson then takes on Transylvania University (3-0), ranked No. 9 in the latest Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) poll on Saturday at 2 p.m. in O.C. Lewis Gymnasium.
