The Anderson University women's basketball team fell to Transylvania University in a 71-38 loss during Saturday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) matchup in Lexington, Ky.
Transylvania (16-1, 10-0) is ranked No. 8 in the latest Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) poll and is currently riding a 13-game winning streak. The Pioneers, which entered the game ranked 18th in the nation in 3-pointers made per game (8.6), utilized their perimeter game by making 10-of-27 (37.0 percent) shots from 3-point range.
"We knew we would have our hands full," Coach Lindsay Shade said. "Transylvania is ranked in the top 10 for a reason. They are talented, deep, and very well coached. They are an excellent 3-point shooting team and we gave them entirely too many uncontested looks from the perimeter."
Lexi Dellinger made her return after missing almost five full games due to injury. Prior to her injury, the 5-foot-5 sophomore guard from Berne was leading the Ravens (6-11, 2-8) with 15.1 points per game.
"It is going to take her some time to get her game legs back, but it was really good to have Lexi back in the lineup. Her experience and leadership are going to be important for us down the stretch."
Transylvania converted 23-of-50 (46 percent) shots from the field. Anderson made 12-of-41 (29.3 percent) shots from the floor and 1-of-14 (7.1 percent) attempts from behind the arc.
The Pioneers drained a perfect 15-of-15 shots from the free-throw line while the Ravens made 13-of-18 (72.2 percent) attempts from the charity stripe.
Hannah Hawkins led the Ravens with 10 points. The 6-foot-2 junior center from Fairmount knocked down 5-of-7 (71.4 percent) attempts from the floor.
Payton Moore contributed eight points and five rebounds. Carly Hackler scored six points. Hanna Ault provided five points and Mariah Clemons turned in four points. Jade Shipley and Rylee Morris produced two points each while Allie Owens rounded out Anderson's scoring with one point.
The Ravens are scheduled for two HCAC home games next week at O.C. Lewis Gymnasium. Anderson clashes with Defiance College (6-11, 5-5) on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The Ravens then take on Earlham College (4-13, 3-7) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
