Thunder Too Much for Ravens

Wheaton College (1-1) secured a 79-64 victory over the Anderson University women's basketball team (1-1) during the Beth Baker Classic on Friday in Wheaton, Ill.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Wheaton displayed efficiency, shooting 46.9 percent (30-of-64) from the field compared to Anderson's 33.3 percent (21-of-63).
• Anderson converted 8-of-28 (28.6 percent) from 3-point range, slightly edging Wheaton's 5-of-18 (27.8 percent) performance from beyond the arc.
• Both teams matched each other at the free-throw line, going 14-of-24 (58.3 percent).
• Wheaton dominated the paint, outscoring Anderson 44-26 and securing a 46-38 rebounding advantage.
• A slow start proved costly for Anderson, as the Ravens shot just 15.4 percent (2-of-13) in the first quarter. Meanwhile, Wheaton surged ahead with a 52.6 percent (10-of-19) shooting clip. Wheaton led 23-5 after one.

COACH JON GIN'S COMMENTS

• We didn't get off the bus very well. We had a terrible first half and just couldn't recover.
• I loved how our team responded after halftime. They showed a lot of grit, and our shots started to fall. Unfortunately, we just ran out of time.
