The Anderson University women's soccer team charged past the Ball State University club team in the first half with a 3-0 victory during Tuesday's exhibition at Macholtz Stadium.
"[Tuesday] was an awesome home opener and I was very pleased with the energy and effort all across the field," Coach Jennifer Myhre said. "We really capitalized on our opportunities and it was great to see players take some looks on goal and be rewarded for it."
Five minutes into the match, Morgan Reed (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern) made a 20-yard drive and chipped a goal from above the top-left corner of the box. During the 18th minute, Emily Buchman (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) fired a shot on goal that was saved, but Jessica Pulaski (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) finished the rebound for the goal. Buchman was awarded the assist. Sabrina Morrison (Bloomington, Ind./South) then drilled a goal from 50 yards for the goal 27 minutes into the match. Abbey Woodcock (Reading, Ohio/Reading) received the assist.
"We talked before the game that you have to shoot to score, and sometime if you see it, just take the shot. From a defensive point of view, a clean sheet is always the goal and they all did their part."
Goalkeepers D'Anjrea Allen (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian), Jessica McNeil (Eaton, Ind/Delta) and Elizabeth Graham (Riverside, Ohio/Carroll) combined for a shutout.
"This was a great first step and we look forward to going after it again [on Wednesday]."
Anderson (0-0) goes head-to-head with St. Mary's (Ind.) College (2-0) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Notre Dame.
