The Anderson University women's soccer team shut out Earlham College in a 2-0 victory during Wednesday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) matchup at Macholtz Stadium.
Both teams fought high wind speeds during Wednesday's match.
"No game is easy and with the windy conditions, we knew we would have to find the penetrating ball to feet on the ground and look for combinations up top," Coach Jennifer Myhre said.
Brooke Neu (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) found the back of the net in the 14th minute with her first career ball. The sophomore from West Chester, Ohio finished a through ball assisted by Hannah Planck (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West).
"It was a great through ball by Hannah and Brooke struck it well, keeping it low and on frame. We talk about making the most of your opportunities as you never know when the one touch or shot will make the difference and Brooke made it count."
Jessica Pulaski (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) converted a penalty kick in the 48th minute, making it the second consecutive match she has scored on a penalty kick. The junior from Centerville, Ohio was fouled in the box on a breakaway opportunity set up by Harper Manion (Lebanon, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) and Corissa Horton (Fountaintown, Ind./Triton Central).
"Jessica making the PK was huge, yet it was still a battle to the end."
Anderson (1-2, 1-2) outshot Earlham (0-3, 0-3) by a 20-5 margin and held an 9-1 advantage in shots on goal.
Planck and Taylor Fort (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) each finished with three shots, including two shots on goal. Horton turned in three shots, including one shot on goal. Pulaski produced two shots, including one shot on goal while Nicole Miller (Richland, Mich./Gull Lake) tallied two shots. Neu, Taylor Baker (Springfield, Ohio/Catholic Central) and Manion each registered shots on goal. Maggie Kolenic (Cleveland, Ohio/Newbury), Isabella Trader (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton), Kaitlyn Revell (Louisville, Ky./Assumption) and Anhely Montes (Portland, Ind./Jay County) each put together shots.
Anderson's defensive line, which started Nadia Bentley (Cincinnati, Ohio/Archbishop McNicholas), Miller and Kolenic, allowed just one shot on goal. Elizabeth Graham (Riverside, Ohio/Carroll) saved the only shot she faced.
The Ravens battle Bluffton University (0-3, 0-2) in HCAC action on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Macholtz Stadium.
"We will continue to build upon this heading into the weekend."
