Gorlocks Edge Ravens in Overtime
Webster University edged the Anderson University women's soccer team with a 1-0 victory on Saturday at the AU Soccer Fields.
Â
Melissa Kasper delivered the game-winning goal for the Gorlocks (6-3) during the 96th minute of the match.
Â
"I'm very proud of the team and was pleased with how we played and competed," Coach Jennifer Myhre said. "We knew [Saturday] would be a good test as Webster is always a solid squad and we came out with intensity, effort and drive. The entire team was locked in, ready to battle and encouraged one another. Our play across the field stepped up a level, especially from a defensive effort, and was a good way to close the non-conference season as it shows us what we are capable of."
Â
Taryn Banfield recorded a six-save shutout for Webster during 95 minutes, 29 seconds as goalkeeper.
Â
Harper Manion (Lebanon, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) led the Ravens (6-1-1) with four shots, including three shots on goal. Jessica Pulaski (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville), Katie Essick (Harlem, Ga./Harlem) and Sabrina Morrison (Bloomington, Ind./South) each registered shots on goal while Bailey Dornbusch (Troy, Ohio/Troy), Morgan Reed (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern), Betsy Balish (Fountaintown, Ind./Triton Central) and Tori Baver (Garrett, Ind./Garrett) each added shots. D'Anjrea Allen (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) saved three of the four shots she faced during 95:29 in goal.
Â
Webster outshot Anderson 12-11, but the Ravens held a 6-4 advantage in shots on goals.
Â
"I feel for the team as any overtime loss is hard and shouldn't overshadow the 90-plus minutes of great play. If we bring the same energy, fight and possession play into conference, it should be a great run."

Anderson battles Transylvania University (2-6-1) to open Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Lexington, Ky.
