Fourth-seeded Hanover College (12-5) defeated the fifth-seeded Anderson University (7-8-3) in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Tournament on Saturday in Hanover.
Hanover came out of the gate quickly, forcing Adrienne Weyers, the Anderson goalie, to make a save in the 3rd minute.
The Panthers picked up the pressure around the 19th minute, but Weyers was there to make four more saves.
At the end of the first half, both teams were scoreless, with Hanover outshooting the Ravens twelve to eight, including eight to two in shots on goal.
Coming out of the break, the Panthers were able to tie the score when Cam Horsley found the back of the net in the 52nd minute. A corner kick deflected right to her, and she put it in the bottom corner.
The Ravens didn't take long to respond. In the 59th minute, Emily Metzger beat her defender and made a cross to Lillie Casey, who spun around and found the bottom corner.
The game remained even until Hanover's Beth Cook forced a takeaway, went in on a breakaway, and put it past Weyers for her Conference leading 16th of the year.
Hanover took 20 shots throughout the contest, ten on goal, to Anderson's five and four on goal. Rebekah Fannin and Lillie Casey had two shots each; all four hit the goal, and Adrienne Weyers stood tall in the cage, coming up with eight saves.
COMMENTS FROM COACH JENNIFER MYHRE
I'm really proud of the team as they competed well and pressed hard till the end. It was a great drive in by Emily [Metzger] to find Lillie [Casey] on the goal and was the spark we needed to stay in it. They have a dangerous attack and Adrienne [Weyers] and the back line handled them well. I feel for the team and especially the seniors, as it was a great season. The seniors had an amazing four years and really impacted the team as people and players. We will miss them and know they will continue to soar in life.
